1974 – 1978 Employed by Hebron & Medlock, Bath. Contracted to Plessey Marine Systems Digital PCB design – red & blue taped. Rolls Royce Bristol Aircraft engine control systems PCB design and mechanical design for Pegasus (Harrier jump jet) Olympus 593B (Concorde). Contracted to Plessey, Roke Manor – PCB design for Ptarmagan battlefield Communications system
1978 – 1986 Partnership – Wiltshire design services. Chippenham. PCB design service, contracting to various companies including Westinghouse Rail systems, Westland Helicopters, and Securicor. Moved from taped artwork to digitiser and overseeing installation of a vector photoplotter (Emma80)
1986 – 1994 Owner Photrax PCB design and Photoplotting service to various companies. Digital/Analogue design of a radio system for Securicor Ltd. Negotiated distribution rights for the first PC based CAD system in UK – PADS PCB from USA. System used for design and demonstration to various Electronics companies.
1994 – 2000 Managing Director Photrax UK Ltd Amalgamated Photrax with a company in Slough to form Photrax UK Ltd. 14 staff including 2 x PCB design bureaux, sales of PADS PCB, and development of a Mains signalling system to allow house appliance control through a programmer and using mains wiring for control signals. Installation of a Laser photoplotter in the Slough office. First year turn-over £750,000. The high cost of mains signalling development and poor sales due to outside factors led to disbandment of the company.
2000-2004 Partner Photocad, Chippenham. PCB design using PADS-PCB and Ariadne. Sales of Ariadne PCB Layout and schematics package, and laser photoplotting. CAM350 for panelisation of customer gerber files. All types of PCB designed including double sided SMD design, flexible PCB, and flexi-rigid, and multi-layer. Responsible for implementing a quality control system and achieved ISO9001 standard.
2004-2008 Owner Cadcom. Hi-tech design on 3 CAD systems including Ariadne, PADS Layout, and Protel DXP, including RF design for chip radio, and zigbee. 4500 pin layout including 2 x 240 pin micro BGA’s on the board. Hi speed USB design including differential pair calculation.
Malcolm Maxwell is capable of completing designs in very fast times. Therefore because overheads are low, the price per pin for design is the lowest in the European market. Qualifications and long experience means accurate designs, on-time, and well within budget.
